So you ever go to Disney, and you right that ride "It's a small world"? That annoying song comes up, and it gets in your head. "It's a small, small, world..." I mean they even brought it up in the movie the Lion King. Do you know why Scar doesnt' want Zazu to sing that song? Maybe because it gets a little annoying, but the deeper mean is that the world is small enough that you can never get away from everyone or everything. Chances are you will run into someone that knows something or someone that you know. Same reason why that 6-degrees of separation thing works. Well, not only is it true in life, but it is even more true in the Navy.
Let's see if I can lay this all out to show you how insane this is...
I went form my first job to my second job, with a stop in a school in Texas to learn about mines. While there, I became friends with a woman named Kristie. I then moved on to my second job. Became friends with some of the guys there, one of them named Matt. Turns out, after like knowning Matt for months, that he knew Kristie in college. And now Kristie is at my school. Crazy, but there is another, funnier one...
So, I graduated from Oregon State. A buddy of mine from Oregon State named Jayson, also in the Navy, went to Hawaii, and I went to Virginia. We met up again through random circumstances in Newport, RI at a Navy school. He had a friend from his ship with him. I then come to NPS for school. Jayson was here, we hung out, but he has since left. In my circle of friends, it turns out that we all knew the same people who were in Hawaii, including they knew Jayson when he was in Hawaii. One of the people that knew the same people that I know from Hawaii is a woman named Shelby. Shelby actually got me the orders to NPS and is now here herself. We are also working towards the same degree. Well, today I met a guy who is new to the program that I am in. He went to school with Shelby. Well, as it turns out he just left a job on a submarine where he worked for a boss named Kevin Macy. This is the same Kevin Macy who was an instructor at the Oregon State ROTC while I was a student there...
How about that for crazy, and a small world.
P.S., my neighbor was at Oregon State when I was at Oregon State. While I was a student in the Navy ROTC, she was an instructor at teh Air force ROTC.
"It;s a small, small world..."
Peace out.
