Repost: The worst airport in the World

Ok, so this is a post from a few years ago, originally created Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 2:16am:

Ok, so I am going home on leave to see family and enjoy life again, right? WRONG! Instead i get to spend TWO days, not one flying back to OR, in whihc i gain 3 hours. How you might ask????? Well that is the magical journey we are about to go on.

So I arrive at Norfolk International Airport (ORF) early to ensure that I am there for my flight. I ended up being liek 3 hours early roughly. So then about 20 minutes prior to loading time this announcment comes out over the PA system. It informed us that the weather in Newark picked up and that they are limited in how many planes they can have so the Air Traffic Controllers decide to hold planes, including mine. so instead of leaving at 445pm, the plane leave ORF at 625pm. It is 1 hour flight to Newark, and my flight to Portland, Or (PDX) leaves at 720pm. Hince a quandry.

So I run from gate 112 to gate 72. And the plane is there!!! Yea! So I go up to the counters, cuz I heard them make a final boarding call. The doors are closed, and I ask the guy if I can get on...But apparently the guy at the gate decided to be an asshole and not let anyone through not matter what the story. So because of the Newark Airport's idioticy I had to go to the ticket services to try to find a new flight. But guess what is right through the windows at gate services. The outside of Gate 72. And if you recall that was the gate of my plane. So when I look out and I see a plane, I get confused. So I get out of line at the ticket services and go back to talk to the asshole. And he tell me in polite airline speak to go fuck myself and that there is no way in Hell that I am getting on that plane. So I go back to the ticket services. The earliest flight I can get is 630 in the morning. They tried to sell me on the idea of flying at 530pm on the 28th. I said Hell no! So now I have new tickets. Where I fly to Atlanta and then fly to PDX. So it's time to see if there is anyone in the airport who can give me a better flight.

So i go looking for a ticket counter, and it appears that Continental owns the whole freakin' airport. So after traversing the 3 terminals I find that no on has a better deal. So I head back to the security point in order to grab a seat and grab some zzzzzz. But as it turns out that my flight isn't until the next day. So they won't let me into the checkpoint area, without a special gate pass. So now I have to go aroudn and find someone that is open and to give me a gate pass. So I then spent the next 2 hours trying to get this damb pass. So then I am sitting in the checkpoint with literally no one around me, and a security guard says i have to leave the area, so they can secure it...This is 3am and i had been there since 1030pm. what asses. So I had to wait until 445am to reopen the security checkpoint. Fun. I hate this place. This airline sucks.
